Expo Real: As Europe's strongest innovation region, Baden-Württemberg continues to be attractive for investors

On the joint stand of Baden-Württemberg International at Expo Real, various regions in the state are displaying their settlement potential.

At Expo Real in Munich from 8 to 10 October 2018, Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i), the agency for economic development, is looking to convince foreign investors of the location’s attractiveness in Germany's southwest with diverse offers from six regions. "As a location, Baden-Württemberg stands for enormous economic and innovative strength – throughout the EU. What is especially interesting for investors is that the individual regions can cover the whole bandwidth of available real-estate area sizes", says bw-i CEO Dr. Kai Schmidt-Eisenlohr. Last year, Baden-Württemberg attracted 421 foreign investment projects, slightly fewer than the 449 projects in 2016.

On the joint bw-i stand this year, 36 exhibitors and their partners are showcasing the German southwest as a location for investment at Europe's largest get-together for the real estate and investment sector in Hall B 1.222. Under the auspices of the state of Baden-Württemberg, the regions Freiburg, Heilbronn-Franken, North Black Forest, East Württemberg, Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg as well as Neckar-Alb will be providing information on their main branches of industry, the available commercial real estate and interesting investment projects.

The North Black Forest Region is the leading region for precision technology and sustainable materials but at the same time earns points for its high quality of living.  It especially appeals to investors who are interested in smaller, high-quality property. The town of Horb am Neckar, for example, is offering land that is located in easily accessible areas and is suitable for a wide variety of uses.

Known as a global centre for medical technology, the high-tech region of Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg also has space available in the form of 40 hectares for a large estate, attractively located on the A81 in Sulz am Neckar.

Investors on the lookout for larger industrial areas will hit pay dirt in the Neckar-Alb region as well: In the centre of Reutlingen as well as in the future inter-communal industrial estate in the Zollernalb district, there are still opportunities for companies to settle.

The East-Württemberg region is presenting highlights from the cities of Aalen, Ellwangen, Heidenheim and Schwäbisch-Gmünd, all of which are represented at the stand. Aalen and Schwäbisch-Gmünd, for example, are currently focusing on housing construction and draw attention to the fact that, located in the "area for talent and patents", the cities are not only good places to live in but are also less expensive than Stuttgart.

The part of the stand dedicated to the Heilbronn-Franken region is also concentrating on housing. The Federal Garden Show 2019 is laying the foundation stone for the future city district of  Neckarbogen in Heilbronn, which is to be home to up to 3,500 people. The new district will be characterised by its green character, which will be the result of parts of the Federal Garden Show being retained.

Notable visitors expected at the Baden-Württemberg stand

The appearance of Baden-Württemberg at Expo Real is also arousing the interest of high-ranking politicians. At the beginning of the trade fair on Monday, 8 October 2018, EU commissioner Günther Oettinger will be visiting the bw-i stand and will talk to the exhibitors about the state's EU-sponsored "RegioWin" project.

Katrin Schütz, state secretary in the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg for Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing, has also announced her attendance and, in the course of a walk around the fair, will visit the bw-i stand where she will talk to the represented regions and companies to obtain a picture of Baden-Württemberg's investment potential. At 5.30 in the evening, State Secretary Schütz will be hosting a reception offering the opportunity to engage in talks with the exhibitors on the joint stand of bw-i.
