Baden-Württemberg presents itself at MEDICA 2012, the leading international trade fair for medical and health care technology in Düsseldorf.

Together with successful companies and well-known research institutions from Baden-Württemberg, Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) will be participating in MEDICA from 14 to 17 November 2012 to showcase Baden-Württemberg as a location for medical and health-care technology.

This year, Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) will once again be operating a joint stand at Medica, the leading international trade fair. Alongside innovative Baden-Wuerttemberg companies, bw-i will be emphasising the outstanding position occupied by the south-west of Germany in the area of medical technology and health care. In addition, the University Medical Center Freiburg with WiSMA (a company owned by the university), ITV Denkendorf, BioRegio STERN and the state agency BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg will be represented on the joint stand C41 located in hall 16. In 2011 MEDICA welcomed 135,000 visitors, around half of whom travelled from abroad to come to the fair.  Based on the high demand, the organiser is expecting approximately 4,500 exhibitors from over 75 nations this year, spread out through 17 different halls of the fair. The main focus will be on hygiene, personalised medicine, mobile IT, modern imaging, innovation management and networking.

COMPAMED, the partner trade fair taking place at the same time, will be offering mainly component-suppliers and product developers in the area of medical technology the opportunity to present themselves in an international marketplace. Baden-Württemberg International is helping the Hochform cluster initiative to create a joint stand at this fair. In hall 8B stand number J31, companies from the North Black Forest region will be presenting themselves on this stand.

Baden-Württemberg is one of the top locations in Germany for medical technology

Around one third of German medical technology companies have their headquarters in Baden-Württemberg. These companies generate around 5 billion euros in annual sales, 25 per cent of the total turnover in Germany and higher than any other state in the country. Moreover, with a share of more than 21 per cent of all people employed in the medical technology sector in Germany, Baden-Wuerttemberg has the largest proportion of employees in this high-tech industry.

Baden-Württemberg – an excellent location for research and innovation

The strength of manufacturers of medical equipment in Baden-Württemberg is their outstanding innovativeness. More than 50 per cent of sales are generated with products that have been on the market for less than three years, an achievement made possible by – among other things – the outstanding research institutions and universities in Baden-Württemberg. This is especially so in places with a strong orientation towards medical technology such as Tuttlingen,  Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Freiburg, which ensure the existence of a pool of highly qualified employees as well as intensive research in the area of medical technology and associated systems. Around 27 per cent of medical technology graduates in Germany obtain their degrees at Baden-Wuerttemberg's universities. A total of 80 universities, institutes and research facilities are engaged in research and development in the area of medical technology.

Jürgen Oswald, CEO of bw-i, invites visitors to Medica 2012 to find out more about the location and its potential: "In the area of medical technology, Baden-Württemberg offers excellent research, innovative companies and outstanding qualified staff.  Come to our joint stand C41 in hall 16 and let the experts of bw-i advise you on opportunities for investment and cooperation and show you why companies from the medical technology industry encounter ideal conditions for doing business in our state."

The joint Baden-Württemberg stand will also serve as a contact point for students and job applicants in technical professions who want to find out about employment opportunities in the medical technology industry or other technical areas in Baden-Württemberg.
