Baden-Württemberg at InnoTrans 2012, the world's leading trade fair for rail transport technology

Baden-Württemberg International will be working with innovative Baden-Württemberg companies to promote Baden-Württemberg as a location for industry and science at InnoTrans in Berlin from 18 to 21 September 2012.

This year, Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) will again be represented at InnoTrans in Berlin with a joint stand at the fair. Together with innovative companies such as Autronic Steuer- und Regeltechnik GmbH, Engeser GmbH, AIRtronic GmbH, Nadella GmbH, EMCA Elektromechanische Bauteile GmbH, Vollert Anlagenbau GmbH & Co. KG, Merz Schaltgeräte GmbH & Co. KG, PROVERTHA Collectors, Cables & Solutions GmbH, Sphinx Computer Vertriebs GmbH and Spohn & Burkhardt GmbH & Co., bw-i will be using the joint stand in hall 10.2 (stand 111) to showcase the south-western state's prime position in the areas of rail transport technology, rail infrastructure development and rail transportation.

Rail transportation has a long tradition in Baden-Württemberg. It is therefore no accident that numerous companies in the industry are at home in Germany's southwest. Here, there are not only excellent conditions such as the many parts suppliers but also a good transportation network and geographical proximity to Europe's economic centres, not to mention a pool of highly skilled employees and excellent research institutions. Expected to grow rapidly in the next few years due to the structural changes in transport and logistics, the industry in Baden-Württemberg is therefore in a very good position at the moment. In addition to these location factors, which are advantageous for production, the state has an outstanding railway transportation infrastructure; the rail network operated by Deutsche Bahn AG in the southwest of Germany contains approximately 3,800 km of track. This is in addition to the around 900 km that is not state-owned.

The growth in importance experienced by rail in recent years is primarily due to rising fuel prices and stricter regulations regarding permitted emission levels. Combined with the increasing pressure on the road network, these factors are causing companies and consumers to rethink their attitudes. Rail transport is therefore becoming more and more important as a means of moving people and goods. The increase in the number of people using local public transport has been rising by 1 to 3 per cent a year since 2005 and, in 2011, Deutsche Bahn carried more people that in any year before. For goods transport by rail, very high growth rates are also expected. The "Allianz Pro Schiene" (pro-rail alliance) sees a market share of 25 per cent in 2020 as realistic for goods transport. These developments are leading to increased demand for products made by the rail transport industry and to more contracts for related branches of industry such as track and tunnel construction.

Jürgen Oswald, CEO of bw-i, invites visitors to InnoTrans 2012 to find out about Baden-Württemberg at the joint stand mentioned above: "In the area of rail transport technology, Baden-Württemberg can offer excellent research institutions, innovative companies and a pool of outstanding qualified employees. The experts of Baden-Württemberg International will be on hand at InnoTrans 2012 to provide advice to companies from Germany and abroad about the opportunities for investment and cooperation in the state and will be highlighting the great benefits that the location has to offer companies in the logistics sector."

The joint Baden-Württemberg stand will also be serving as a contact point for students and job-seekers in technical professions who want to find out about job opportunities in the logistics industry or in other technical areas in Baden-Württemberg.
