Industrial parts-supply solutions
- an advertisement for Baden-Württemberg's industry
For years, Baden-Württemberg has enjoyed a reputation as one of the most innovative regions worldwide in respect of the parts-supply industry. One of its typical virtues is continuous development of innovative technologies. The industry has recovered from the crisis in 2009 and is picking up speed again. In the long term, the demand for mobility, safety and comfort will increase and is leading to an approximately six per cent increase in vehicle sales in the overall market as forecast. The low-cost area is the fastest growing segment in the automotive market and therefore demands new inexpensive innovations. The central innovation issues in the industry are emissions, consumption and weight. Due to the increasing shortage of resources and current demands for climate protection and CO2 reduction, lightweight systems are gaining in importance. Lightweight construction is the driving force behind innovations in product development and is thus ensuring decisive competitive advantages.

Close interconnection of industry and research
The intensive collaboration between industry and research is an important factor for the suc-cess of Baden-Württemberg as a location. Numerous new joint research projects year after year repeatedly enliven the market for industrial applications. On the joint Baden-Württemberg stand in hall 2 "Research & Technology", eight universities and research institutes will be participating. A real attraction will be the "HydroSmart" electric vehicle of the University of Applied Sciences Esslingen, which won the 90 km-long Challenge Bibendum rallye in Rio de Janeiro in 2010. As another highlight, the Lernfabrik for advanced Industrial Engineering of the Institut für Industrielle Fertigung und Fabrikbetrieb (IFF) of Stuttgart university will be presenting a robot cell whose real energy consumption can be visualised and analysed directly. This will lay the foundations for a reduction of energy costs in production. The university of Ulm will be showcasing its wide-ranging research work on the topic of sustainable energy generation, energy storage and batteries/electro-mobility. The technical university of Mannheim will be introducing a new navigation system for minimally invasive surgery. Various outstanding courses of study will be on offer from the university for forestry in Rottenburg and the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW). In addition, the BMBF peak cluster MicroTEC in the south-west, represented by its cluster management agency MST BW e.V. will be presenting itself as well as the biomimetics competence network of Baden-Württemberg, the Zentrum der bionischen Innovationen für die Industrie at the Institut für Textil- und Verfahrenstechnik (ITV) Denkendorf.
