At the Hannover Trade Fair 2011, the most important international fair for technology trends in industry, Baden-Württemberg will be presenting sustainable mobility solutions of the future

e-mobil BW and Baden-Württemberg International will be joining innovative companies, research institutes and clusters to present Baden-Württemberg as a location for industry and science at MobiliTec, the new leading fair in Hannover for hybrid and electric drive technologies, mobile energy storage systems and alternative mobility technologies. The fair will be taking place from April 4 to 8, 2011.

Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) and e-mobil BW, the state agency for electro-mobility and fuel cell technology, will be appearing together for the first time on a joint stand at MobiliTec in the framework of the Hannover Trade Fair 2011.

Together with ads-tec GmbH, alutec Metallwaren GmbH GmbH & Co. KG, Aradex AG, Automotive Simulation Center Stuttgart e.V., Brennstoffzellen- und Batterie-Allianz Baden-Württemberg, Dorfmüller Solaranlagen GmbH, EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG, GiMA consult - Gesellschaft für integriertes Management mbH, Hy Lion Tec GmbH, MB Tech Group, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology with nanoValley.eu, SMART Electronic Development GmbH as well as Steinbeis initiative for the mobility of the future and the economic promotion agency for the Stuttgart region with the electro-mobility model region Stuttgart, they will be present in hall 25, stand H19 in order to demonstrate Baden-Württemberg's leading position in the field of alternative mobility technologies.

Outstanding know-how for sustainable mobility solutions of the future
More than a quarter of the people involved in automobile construction in Germany – around 240,000 employees – work in Baden-Württemberg, the heart of the car manufacturing industry, and generate an annual turnover of around 74 billion euros. In addition, there are approximately 140,000 employees who work in Baden-Württemberg companies that belong to other parts of the automotive industry and form a unique vehicle parts supply network. “As a technology location for electro-mobility, Baden-Württemberg is exceedingly well equipped. In the important areas of battery technology, vehicle engineering, lightweight construction, infrastructure and fuel cell technology, there are companies, research institutes and universities that are already engaged in numerous initiatives and projects which show how sustainable and environment-friendly mobility solutions can be created successfully”, said Franz Loogen, executive director of e-mobil BW, the state agency for electro-mobility and fuel cell technology. When it comes to important questions about how to link mobility to intelligent energy networks and new business models by means of innovative IT applications for mobility solutions, the German Southwest possesses enormous know-how as well. It is not for nothing that the Baden-Württemberg IT industry leads the field in Europe in terms of registered patents.

Baden-Württemberg – an excellent location for research and innovation
The worldwide success and the great innovative dynamism of Baden-Württemberg as a location for the automotive industry as a whole can be explained by, among other things, the enormous efforts that are put into research and development; in no other federal state in Germany is more money invested in R&D expenditure and R&D personnel in the area of vehicle construction. Forty-one per cent of the R&D personnel of companies in the state are employed in vehicle-construction research facilities alone, working on new solutions for the mobility of the future.

Under the scientific coordination of FKFS, the research institute for powered mobility and vehicle engines Stuttgart, there is also Germany's "Alliance for innovation in automobile electronics” – an automobile-electronics research initiative promoted by the BMBF, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, to the tune of 600 million euros. Moreover, Daimler and Bosch, two of the most important Baden-Württemberg companies in the sector, are closely involved in the project. In addition, a large number of high-ranking research institutes do work on issues relating to vehicle construction and traffic. Apart from the KIT, the Karlsruhe institute of technology and research institutes of the DLR in Stuttgart, there are numerous Fraunhofer institutes and the Max Planck Institute for Metal Research in Stuttgart. All in all, 67 institutes are engaged in research and development in the various fields of the automotive industry.

Highly qualified specialist personnel for companies thanks to excellent range of universities
A large, highly qualified pool of potential employees is available to local automotive companies. Around one quarter of students at the 9 research universities and 23 universities for applied sciences in the state attend courses with an affinity to the automotive industry. Practically all of the state's universities offer special mobility-related study courses such as engineering design, materials processing, vehicle technology, vehicle engineering and industrial mobility design. On top of all this, there is a large number of special courses of study such as automotive information technology, computational mechanics of materials and structures, vehicle interior design, mechatronics and automotive systems engineering.
Herbert Bossinger, member of the board of management of Baden-Württemberg International, invites visitors to MobiliTec 2011 to find out more about the state: "Baden-Württemberg can offer excellent research, innovative companies and outstanding, superbly qualified specialist employees. The experts of Baden-Württemberg International and e-mobil BW will be advising companies from Germany and abroad attending MobiliTec 2011 on opportunities for investment and cooperation and will be pointing out our state's ideal conditions for companies interested in doing business here." In addition, the joint Baden-Württemberg stand will serve as a contact point for students and job-seekers in technical professions who want to find out about employment opportunities in Baden-Württemberg.
