The southwest strongly represented at the Hannover Messe 2015 Trade Fair

Innovations in the areas of “Industrial Supply”, “Lightweight Solutions”, “Research & Technology” and “MobiliTec” will be presented in Hannover from 13 to 17 April 2015.

Once again, Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) together with around 90 companies, universities and research institutes as well as economic regions will be represented at the different trade shows of Hannover Messe. As always, bw-i will be showcasing the southwest as a location of interest for business, science and innovation. On the Baden-Württemberg pavilions, the experts from bw-i will be providing advice on the subject of cooperation; they help companies wishing to enter the market in Germany’s southwest to find suitable partners for cooperative ventures.

This year’s Hannover Trade Fair will focus on the increasing importance of networking in industry. Many of the current challenges facing companies such as the question of data security or the search for the business model of the future can only be dealt with in the context of a network. In Baden-Württemberg, more than 80 companies, universities and research institutes as well as clusters and networks from the areas of automation, automotive, IT and microsystems technology are working on projects and solutions for Industry 4.0. The state government of Baden-Württemberg wants to make Baden-Württemberg into the leading location and trailblazer in all matters relating to Industry 4.0. On the initiative of Minister Nils Schmid, the Industry 4.0 Alliance, which networks all the important players in the state, was therefore established in March 2015. The chairman of the steering committee and the spokesperson for the Alliance is Manfred Wittenstein, former president of the VDMA (German Engineering Association) and today’s chairman of the supervisory board of Wittenstein AG. VDMA Baden-Württemberg is currently setting up a coordination office for the Alliance.

Suppliers' location with a long tradition and great potential for the future.

As the only trade show for suppliers to multiple branches of industry, the “Industrial Supply” fair covers all the issues in this sector, enabling a direct comparison of competing supplier solutions for all stages of the supply chain. Over a period of years, Baden-Württemberg has built up a very strong parts-supply industry, which is now one of the strongest and most innovative in the world. On the Baden-Württemberg pavilion (Stand E24 in Hall 4), 28 companies will be presenting their products and services to a specialist international public. At the same time, the economic regions of Stuttgart, North Black Forest and Mittelbaden as well as the state agency for environment technology Umwelttechnik BW, all of which will also be represented on the stand, will be providing information on investment opportunities in these locations and in Baden-Württemberg as a whole, an important location for environment technology.

Innovative solutions in lightweight construction – Less is more. Future.

Because of its ability to reduce the consumption of resources, lightweight construction is increasingly becoming a key technology in many branches of industry. In Baden-Württemberg as well, the “lightweight” approach is becoming more and more popular. The fact that Germany‘s southwest can offer innovative solutions in this area as well will be demonstrated by fourteen exhibitors on the Baden-Württemberg pavilion (D30) in Hall 6. The participation of the state of Baden-Württemberg in the “Lightweight Solutions” sector is being organised and managed by bw-i in collaboration with Leichtbau BW, the state agency for lightweight construction.

Sustainability in road traffic and transport -  Not a contradiction.

The “MobiliTec” fair will also be focussing on innovative technologies that help to conserve resources. The fair will be providing an overview of alternative mobility technologies, thus establishing a connection between renewables and the mobility sector. Electric and hybrid drive systems as well as mobile energy storage devices will be presented among other things.

This year as well, numerous companies from the automotive industry, electrical engineering sector and the mechanical and plant engineering industry will be using the fair – the most important one with regard to electro-mobility – to present innovative technologies on the joint bw-i stand. The stand is once again being organised and arranged by e-mobil BW , the state agency for electro-mobility and fuel-cell technology, and the Stuttgart economic region.  Apart from these two institutions for the promotion of business and industry, 37 Baden-Württemberg companies, universities and clusters will be presenting themselves on the Baden-Württemberg pavilion (Stand H85, Hall 27). They will be showing what sustainable mobility solutions of the future might look like.

Close collaboration of industry and science.

Close collaboration between companies, universities and research institutes is an important factor for the success of Baden-Württemberg as a location for business, science and industry. The large amount of investment in research and development has paid off immensely for the economy. Nowhere else in Europe is so much invested in this area as in Baden-Württemberg, which allocates 5.1 per cent of its GDP specifically for this purpose. Compared to the other German federal states, the region also has the highest ratio of new patent registrations per year.

On the joint Baden-Württemberg stand (Stand A18 in Hall 2) in the “Research & Technology” section, seven universities together with their technical institutes will be joining the Alliance for Fibre-based Materials.
