Baden-Württemberg presents itself at MEDICA 2014, the world’s leading trade fair for medical technology in Düsseldorf

The two state agencies, Baden-Württemberg International and BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg, will be joining innovative medical technology companies, two regional cluster initiatives and a well-known research institute to present Baden-Württemberg as a health industry location on the Baden-Württemberg Pavilion at Medica, from 12 to 15 No-vember, 2014.

For the twelfth time, the Baden-Württemberg Pavilion will be attending Medica to showcase the technology trends of tomorrow. In conjunction with 24 Baden-Württemberg medical technology companies, the two regional cluster initiatives BioRegio STERN and Medical Mountains as well as ITV Denkendorf Produktservice GmbH, Baden-Württemberg International and BIOPRO Baden-Württemberg will be highlighting the outstanding position of the German Southwest in the area of healthcare and medical technology. Come and visit us at Stand G24 located in Hall 15.

Here, you can obtain an overview of exhibitors on the joint stand, incl. brief profiles.

As the world’s largest medical trade fair, Medica is also a meeting point for international visitors, manufacturers and parts-suppliers from a wide variety of countries. In 2013, over 132,000 visitors attended this leading international trade fair, without around half of the visitors coming from abroad. During the four days of the show, 4,618 exhibitors from 66 nations presented their products and services in the areas of medical technology, laboratory equipment, diagnostic systems, orthopaedic technology, and medical requisites and products. Medical services were also a prominent focus of the fair.

Baden-Württemberg – Centre of the German health industry

The health industry in Germany’s Southwest has a very long tradition. Today, Baden-Württemberg is a highly successful health industry location with a global reputation. The sector is characterised by successful small and medium-sized enterprises as well as by international corporations such as Roche, Boehringer Ingelheim, Aesculap, Paul Hartmann and Karl Storz.
In the area of medical technology in particular, Baden-Württemberg is not only regarded as leading the field in Germany; in Europe and the world as well, the region at the heart of Europe enjoys an excellent reputation as a premium location to do business. This is ensured by the 635 innovative companies, the approximately 80 research institutions and universities as well as the many highly qualified staff who work in the Southwest. Around 49,000 employees are involved in the production of technologically high-quality products and, in 2011, generated taxable turnover to the tune of 14.24 billion euros.
One great strength of Baden-Württemberg’s medical technology manufacturers is their outstanding innovativeness. More than 50 per cent of sales are generated with products that have been on the market for less than three years, an achievement made possible by – among other things – the outstanding research facilities at universities in Baden-Württemberg. This is especially so in places with a strong medical technology segment, such as Tuttlingen, Mannheim, Tübingen/Hechingen and Pforzheim, which ensure the existence of a pool of highly qualified employees as well as intensive research in the area of medical technology and associated fields. Around 27 per cent of medical engineering graduates in Germany obtain their degrees at Baden-Württemberg’s universities.
Foreign business is especially important for the industry. The medical technology companies, which have stable export ratios of more than 60 per cent, are strongly oriented to international markets and are active worldwide. In addition to the traditionally important trading partners, like the member states of the European Union and the USA, foreign sales in the markets of Asia, Central America and South America have grown considerably in the last few years.

Jürgen Oswald, managing director of bw-i, invites visitors to Medica 2014 to find out more about the location and its potential: “Baden-Württemberg offers excellent research, innovative companies and outstanding qualified staff. Come to the Baden-Württemberg Pavilion (G24) in Hall 15 and let the experts of bw-i and BIOPRO advise you on opportunities for investment and collaboration and show you why foreign companies encounter ideal conditions for doing business in our state.”
