Baden-Württemberg at Intersolar Europe 2013, the world's largest platform for the international solar industry. (Kopie 1)

Alongside innovative Baden-Württemberg companies and institutions, Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) will be presenting the state of Baden-Württemberg as a location for industry and science at Intersolar Europe, the world's leading trade fair for photovoltaics, solar energy and solar building, in Munich from 19 to 21 June 2013.

This year, Baden-Württemberg International will be represented with a joint stand at Intersolar Europe in Munich for the ninth time. Together with innovative Baden-Württemberg universities and companies such as Energieberatung Benjamin Kienzler Ltd., Fichtner GmbH & Co. KG, RENA GmbH, J&W Energie GmbH, the INES institute of Offenburg University, WITZENMANN GmbH, Taconova GmbH, Industrial Solar GmbH and the Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW), the agency for economic and scientific promotion will be operating a joint Baden-Württemberg stand (No. B2.536 in hall B2) to showcase the industrial and innovative strength of the German southwest in the area of solar technology. More detailed information on the exhibitors can be found in the exhibitors' flyer. With around 2,000 expected exhibitors and 65,000 anticipated visitors, Intersolar Europe will once again underline its position as Europe's most important get-together for the industry.

In the solar energy sector, one of the world's fastest growing branches of industry of the future, Germany has been playing an important role for many years and is one of the foremost promoters of the technology. Baden-Württemberg, the federal state in the German southwest, occupies a leading position in this context. The area of photovoltaics alone shows how broadly positioned the companies in Baden-Württemberg are; the entire photovoltaics  value added chain – from manufacturers, parts suppliers and wholesale traders to project planners and equipment installers – can be found in the state. At over 50 per cent, the export ratio is exceptionally high and an even further increase in activities abroad is expected in the coming years – even though a part of production in the sun-blessed southwest of Germany is, of course, destined for the home market.

As a location for research in photovoltaics, Baden-Württemberg also takes the lead in Germany. The state's research and development institutes have made a name for themselves worldwide in the field of solar energy. The Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme (ISE) in Freiburg, for example, is the largest solar research institute in Europe. In addition, the Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung (ZSW = centre for solar energy and hydrogen research) in Widderstall has one of the biggest open-air solar testing fields on the continent. The International Solar Energy Research Center (ISC) and the Fraunhofer-Institut für Werkstoffmechanik (IWM = institute for material mechanics) are also resident in Baden-Württemberg. These research facilities and the universities that are offering more and more courses of study in renewables and especially in photovoltaics ensure a continuous supply of qualified staff. In this way, the state is making sure that highly qualified personnel will be available over the long term as well.

A large number of extremely active networks, organisations with specific fields of competence as well as players from different areas of the renewable energy sector stimulate innovations, bundle synergies and create new market potential for companies resident in the state. This type of cluster network is actively promoted in Baden-Württemberg in order to intensify the dialogue between industry and science. Known examples are the SolarRegion Freiburg, the Energieforum Karlsruhe and the Kompetenz- und Innovationszentrum nachhaltige Energie-Technik Esslingen e.V. (Kinet = centre of competence and innovation for sustainable energy technology).

Jürgen Oswald, CEO of bw-i, invites visitors to Intersolar Europe 2013 to come to the trade fair stand and find out about the southwest of Germany: "Baden-Württemberg  offers excellent research, innovative companies and outstanding qualified staff in the area of solar technology. At Intersolar 2013, the experts of Baden-Württemberg International will be on hand to provide advice to companies from Germany and abroad regarding opportunities for investment and cooperation and will be showing that companies from the solar industry will find optimum conditions for doing business in our state."

The joint Baden-Württemberg stand will also serve as a point of contact for students and job seekers in technical professions who want to find out more about the opportunities for employment in the solar technology sector or other technical areas in Baden-Württemberg.
