Baden-Württemberg will be presented at the JEC Composites Europe 2013 - the leading composite materials trade fair.

Baden-Württemberg International will participate with a joint Baden-Württemberg stand at the JEC Composites Show Europe 2013 that takes place in Paris from 12th to 14th March 2013.

After very successful participation in the years 2011 and 2012, Baden-Württemberg International will also take part at the JEC 2013 in a joint company exhibition with the AFBW, alliance of fiber-based materials Baden-Württemberg, and 21 companies from the composite materials branch. The State's booth is located in Hall 1, Stand X46-1.
The JEC Composite Show in Paris, with more than 900 companies and about 12,500 visitors, represents the world's leading trade fair for composite materials, and thus constitutes an important platform for the industry. The exhibition provides an overview of the entire added-value chain: From the processing and manufacturing technologies, fibres and textiles such as carbon, glass, aramid and natural fibres, up to resins, fillers and additives and the associated software and services as well.
On the first day, the 12 March 2013, the Secretary of State in Baden-Württemberg's Ministry of Finance and Economics Ingo Rust MdL will visit the trade fair to gather information on site through conversation with exhibitors about the latest innovations and trends in the composite industry.

Germany's southwest - an excellent location for research and innovation
In light of the increasing importance of energy and resource efficiency, light-weight construction will take a crucial role as one of the most important key future technologies and cater for competitiveness of companies in the manufacturing sector and act as a driver of innovation for many industries. Especially in the automotive, mechanical and plant engineering, in the aerospace industry, in the construction industry and in medical technology, metallic and non-metallic lightweight materials and technologies are already playing an important role or will gain in importance in future. For example, the McKinsey study, published in 2012, "Lightweight, heavy impact" predicted that the global market for lightweight materials grows by 8 percent annually and will reach a volume of over € 300 billion in 2030.
The state of Baden-Württemberg, in addition to an established state agency for lightweight, has leading research institutions and networks that provide pioneer science and technology services in the field of lightweight construction and speed-up the development of newer lightweight construction technologies and materials. For example, the state promotes the German Institutes for Textile and Fibre Research (DITF) in Denkendorf currently facilitating the creation of a centre for high-performance fibres. The spectrum of the sustainable production of high-performance fibres based on carbon and ceramic at the Institute for Textile Chemistry and Chemical Fibres (ITCF) ranges from the development of processing techniques for these fibres on an industrial scale at the Institute of Textile Technology and Process Engineering (ITV).
The University of Stuttgart in conjunction with well-known large companies, small businesses and research organisations is currently establishing the research campus "ARENA2036 (Active Research Environment for the Next Generation of Automobiles)" with the support of the German Ministry for Education and Research. This very long-term measure is to establish a "research factory" for versatile production for future function-integrated lightweight construction with focus on automobile sector. With the research clusters "KITe hyLITE", "KITe hyLITE PLUS" and the "Technology Cluster Composites TC2" in Baden-Württemberg, a variety of partners from industry and science are occupied with the development, testing and efficient production of high-performance hybrid structures for weight and performance optimisation of structural components and combinations of materials to reduce fuel consumption and associated CO2 emissions.
The new project group "Processing technologies in lightweight" at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) in Stuttgart, with the development of suitable tools, machines and manufacturing strategies, aims at efficient machining of lightweight materials and successful industrial implementation. The project team is working closely with the Institute for Machine Tools and other institutes of the University of Stuttgart and can as such transfer basic
findings into the application more rapidly.
The interest groups Leichtbauzentrum Baden-Württemberg e.V. (LBZ-BW), alliance of fibre-based materials of Baden-Württemberg (AFBW) und Carbon Composites Baden-Württemberg e.V. (CC e.V.) are associations of companies, research institutions, business organisations in the state that centralise different aspects of lightweight construction and their applications at the centre of their activities and bring together stakeholders across the entire added-value chain.

Investing in Baden-Württemberg pays off
Investing in Baden-Wuerttemberg is worth particularly due to excellent positioning of the state in various economic sectors, stable economic situation and high degree of cross-linking between business and science. In addition, the state is located in the heart of Europe and has excellent links to the most important target markets. "Take the opportunity and keep in touch with the experts from Baden-Württemberg International at JEC 2013, to get concrete cooperation and investment opportunities in Baden-Württemberg", says Jürgen Oswald, CEO of bw-i.
