electronica 2012: bw-i showcases Baden-Württemberg as a location for business and innovation

Working together with innovative Baden-Württemberg companies, Baden-Württemberg International will be taking the opportunity provided by electronica 2012, the world's leading trade fair for electronic components, systems and applications, to present Baden-Württemberg as a location for business and science.

This year, Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) is again operating a joint stand at electronica in Munich. At stand 157 in hall B4 of the trade fair, which alternates yearly with Productronica, the outstanding position of Baden-Württemberg business and science will be showcased by the economic promotion agency together with up-and-coming Baden-Württemberg companies such as     Böhmler Drehteile GmbH, Ätztechnik Herz GmbH & Co. KG, keller elektronik GmbH, Kienzle GmbH, Art of Technology AG, Nemko GmbH & Co. KG, EMCA Elektromechanische Bauteile GmbH, Häfele GmbH Leiterplattentechnik, Erich Lacher Präzisionsteile GmbH & Co. KG, SPHINX Computer Vertriebs GmbH and Siegfried Beck Werkzeugbau. In 2010, 2,578 international exhibitors used electronica to present their products, solutions and services to around 72,000 interested visitors from all over the world.

Within the German electrical engineering industry, Baden-Württemberg is one of the most important locations, generating almost a fifth of nationwide turnover in this area of technology.  The sector is therefore the third-strongest branch of industry in Baden-Württemberg, after mechanical engineering and the automotive industry. Over 10 per cent of the turnover achieved by the processing industry in the entire federal state is accounted for by the electronics segment. Moreover, Baden-Württemberg universities, technical colleges and research institutes head the field in German education in the area of electrical engineering. Outstanding universities in this field are the KIT in Karlsruhe and the University of Stuttgart. However, the universities in Ulm and Freiburg also achieve top marks and are outstanding educational institutions for aspiring electrical engineers. In addition, many technical colleges in the state offer excellent educational opportunities in the area of electronics and electrical engineering. The colleges in Aalen, Esslingen/Göppingen, Pforzheim and Ulm are among the best.

"Baden-Württemberg is in an excellent position, especially in the highly technicised industrial sectors such as electrical engineering.  Thanks to the good education of young specialists and the outstanding research in the state, we are able to secure this success sustainably and over the long term. I invite visitors to electronica 2012 to convince themselves of this at the joint Baden-Württemberg stand. In addition, the experts of bw-i attending electronica 2012 will be pointing out opportunities for investment and cooperation to interested companies from Germany and abroad and will explain the advantages of Baden-Württemberg as a location for the electrical engineering industry," said Jürgen Oswald, Managing Director of bw-i.

The joint Baden-Württemberg stand will serve as a contact point for students and job-seekers in technical professions who want to found out about the possibilities of employment in the electronics industry or in other technical areas.
