Baden-Württemberg at Intersolar 2011, the world's largest trade-fair platform for the international solar industry

Together with innovative Baden-Württemberg companies and institutions, bw-i will be presenting Baden-Württemberg as a location for industry and science at Intersolar, the world's leading trade fair for photovoltaics, solarthermy and solar construction. The fair takes place in Munich from 8 to 10 June 2011.

This year, Baden-Württemberg International (bw-i) will be participating in the Intersolar fair in Munich with a joint stand for the seventh time. In conjunction with innovative Baden-Württemberg universities and companies such as A. RAYMOND GmbH & Co. KG, Benjamin Kienzler Energieberatung Ltd., HB-TECH AG Deutschland, Hochschule Offenburg, NEUMO GmbH + Co. KG, Sefelec GmbH, Solar Energie Zentrum Stuttgart (SEZ), SPHINX Computer Vertriebs GmbH, TACONOVA GmbH and Xenterio GmbH, the agency for the promotion of industry will be using the joint Baden-Württemberg stand (stand B2.530) in hall B2 to document the leading position enjoyed by Germany's southwest in the up-and-coming area of solar technology.

Baden-Württemberg companies leading the way in international solar technology
In the solar energy sector, one of the world's fasting growing, forward-looking branches of industry, Germany has been playing an important role for many years and is among the leading drivers of the technology throughout the world. Baden-Württemberg, the federal state in Germany's southwest, occupies a leading position in this regard: the pioneers of solar industry as well as many globally leading solar companies come from Baden-Württemberg. The area of photovoltaics alone now boasts around 10,000 employees and a turnover of approximately 3.5 billion euros, having developed from a niche industry into a branch of industry that is responding to the energy needs of the future. In 2012, turnover is expected to be around 5.5 billion euros. Moreover, the export ratio of over 50 per cent is exceptionally high. For the coming years, an increase in activities abroad is also anticipated.
Many companies in the parts-supply industry are located in the southwest of Germany. Their competence is based on the industrial structures of machinery and plant construction, which are especially well developed in Baden-Württemberg in particular.

Success resulting from research and development
As a location for research in the area of photovoltaics, Baden-Württemberg is also number one in the whole of Germany. Institutes of research and development here have made a worldwide name for themselves in the area of solar energy. For example, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. In addition, the Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung (ZSW = Centre for Solar-Energy and Hydrogen Research) in Widderstall has one of the biggest outdoor solar test fields in Europe. A supply of qualified young graduates is also assured: at universities and colleges in Baden-Württemberg, there are more and more courses of study in renewable forms of energy, especially in photovoltaics. The state thus ensures a constant supply of highly qualified technical personnel for the sector.
Joint efforts promote innovation
A large number of extremely active networks and specialist organisations, with players involved in the most varied aspects of renewable forms of energy, stimulate innovation, bundle synergies and create new market potential for local companies. This kind of cluster network is actively supported in Baden-Württemberg in order to intensify the dialogue between industry and science. Some well-known examples are the SolarRegion Freiburg, the Energieforum Karlsruhe and the Kompetenz- und Innovationszentrum nachhaltige Energie-Technik Esslingen e.V. (Kinet).

Herbert Bossinger, member of the Management Board of bw-i, invites visitors to Intersolar 2011 to find out more about the location: "In the area of solar technology, Baden-Württemberg offers excellent research facilities, innovative companies and outstanding qualified staff. At Intersolar 2011, the experts of Baden-Württemberg International will be advising companies from Germany and abroad about opportunities for investment and cooperation and will be explaining why the conditions for companies from the solar industry wishing to set up business in Baden-Württemberg are ideal."

The joint Baden-Württemberg stand will also serve as a contact point for students and job applicants in technical professions who want to find out about employment opportunities in the solar industry or other technical areas in Baden-Württemberg.
