As a project agency for federal ministries, bw-i has been implementing projects in Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Baltic states for 15 years.

Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia: Promotion of small and medium-sized companies

bw-i promotes small and medium-sized companies with the aim of helping them to expand their business activity, create jobs, adapt to changing market requirements, become more competitive and improve the quality of their products. The relevant measures range from concrete consulting services in the areas of business and technology to the provision of equipment, machinery, tools and instruments as well as management training courses and company-specific training measures.

The most important aspects of the project include the provision of advice with regard to technology transfer and the challenges involved in cooperation between domestic and foreign companies. By the end of 2014, 296 companies in the Czech Republic, 753 in Romania and 581 in Slovakia were participating in the project.

Poland: Establishment, monitoring and promotion of a system for revolving funds

Since 1991, the Federal Ministry of the Interior has been supporting eastern European regions in which minorities of German origin live. The aim is to support economic expansion in Silesia, with a focus on improving the standard of living for the minority of German origin and for their Polish neighbours.

bw-i was given the job of introducing and maintaining a system for revolving funds, by means of which new business start-ups and small and medium-sized companies are to be promoted. The successes to date: the profit so far is several times greater than the administration costs incurred for the foundation and the results that were aimed at have been achieved. The partner foundation works professionally and is able to manage assets amounting to more than 30 million euros.

The Baltic states: Promotion of socio-cultural projects

The Baltic states: Promotion of socio-cultural projects

Since 2010 in the Baltic states, bw-i has been carrying out socio-cultural projects promoted by the Federal Ministry of the Interior. The aim is to maintain and promote German culture and language in all three Baltic states, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.

Hungary: Promotion of social projects

Here, bw-i carries out social projects financed by the Federal Ministry of the Interior in order to improve general health and social conditions. Projects in the areas of medical assistance, care of the elderly, promotion of youth and the community are supported.
