Egypt: Institutional reinforcement of GAFI

Egypt: Institutional reinforcement of GAFI

This twinning project is a contribution towards the consolidation of an institutional framework that actively promotes the role of GAFI, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, as a sponsor of investment projects and advocate of strategic reform – and thus encourages a continuous flow of direct foreign investment.

The project supports GAFI in its efforts to improve the investment climate, develop a strategy for the promotion of investment and work out measures aimed at the promotion of investment in target markets. In addition, international experts provide advice on operational aspects of company management.

Germany: Trips for knowledge propagators in the framework of export initiatives, renewable forms of energy and energy efficiency

Germany: Trips for knowledge propagators in the framework of export initiatives, renewable forms of energy and energy efficiency

Within the framework of export initiatives, bw-i works with the respective chambers of foreign trade to organise delegation trips for decision-makers from business, local government and politics to Germany. In 2011, bw-i received delegations from Egypt, Croatia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The trips for knowledge propagators were promoted by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. The aim was to familiarise the participants with German technologies and services in the areas of renewable forms of energy and energy efficiency and to inform them of their possible uses and the potential for savings. At the same time, German representatives from commerce and industry were given the opportunity to present their products and services and to establish business relationships.

Russia and Ukraine: Advanced training programme for Russian/Ukrainian junior managers in Germany

Russia and Ukraine: Advanced training programme for Russian/Ukrainian junior managers in Germany

Since 1997, the Federal Government has been supporting a basic and advanced training programme for Russian junior managers that was called into being by Boris Yeltsin, the Russian president at that time, and Helmut Kohl, the former German Chancellor. In 2000, a similar programme was started for Ukraine. bw-i was commissioned by InWent gGmbH to head one of the six consortiums that are running the advanced training programme for managers.

Together with InWent, bw-i is responsible for preselecting the programme participants in Russia and Ukraine. bw-i arranges seminars, develops and coordinates advanced training programmes in Germany, organises internships in German companies and, as a follow-up measure, evaluates the programme. The participants from the two countries are or are about to become decision-makers in their respective companies. The programme thus offers the German companies that take on the participants a unique opportunity: they obtain information on the potential and possibilities of the Russian and Ukrainian markets, can engage in cooperative ventures with companies in these countries and can advertise for their companies by training a Russian or Ukrainian junior manager.

Together with its partners, bw-i organises internships for 60 to 70 Ukrainian and Russian junior managers from diverse branches of industry every year.

The major objectives of the centre include basic and further training of qualified environment specialists (with a focus on environmental management and technology transfer), provision of consulting services for the industrial sector, support in the introduction of environment-friendly technologies, preparation and equipping of technical laboratories as well as further training of specialists in Germany. India: Strategic management for entrepreneur associations

India: Strategic management for entrepreneur associations

From 22 to 28 November 2009, bw-i conducted a winter school for strategic association management in Chennai, India. 60 employees from 23 entrepreneur associations as well as chambers of commerce and consulting institutions from a total of 20 countries of the South-Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the South African Development Communication (SADC) came together here for one week. The training course was prepared by bw-i and tailored to the specific further-training needs of the participants.

The aim of the programme was to strengthen women in South Africa and South Asia in their role as participants in the economy. Assistance is provided to entrepreneur associations, consulting and vocational-training institutions for small and medium-sized companies, chambers of trade and trade-fair companies in order to help them professionalise their services and to support them in their function as business intermediaries. bw-i had been given the job of planning and conducting the winter school by InWent gGmbH (GIZ).
